5 Steps to Becoming a Golfer

1.  Take lessons:  Before going on the course, you should take the time for some lessons from a qualified PGA or LPGA professional.  We are currently offering the Get Golf Ready program that consists of a series of five lessons where you will learn to swing the club, chip, pitch and putt.  Just as importantly, you will learn on-course etiquette, terminology, and how to conduct yourself in a golf environment. The lessons are held at the Robert T. Lynch Municipal Golf Course in Brookline on Tuesdays April 17 to May 15, Wednesdays April 11 to May 9 and Thursdays April 12 to May 10.  Call the Pro Shop at (617) 730 - 2078 for more information and to sign up.

2.
Get some Equipment:  Visit our marquee sponsor Joe & Leigh's Discount Pro Shop with nearly 8000 square feet of all the leading brands of golf equipment and accessories.  The staff is committed to expertly fitting both your game and your wallet.  Be sure to also check out the shoes and clothes while there.  Jim Furyk bought a putter at Joe & Leigh's and went on to win $11 million with it - think of what you can do with their assistance! Click here for more information and directions.

3.
Get a Mentor:  Fairway Friends is a mentoring program available to all EWGA members that helps transition new golfers from instruction to playing on the course.  A mentee is paired with a mentor to guide them around the golf course safely and answer questions about etiquette, basic rules and the nuances of the game in order to build confidence and comfort in the golf course setting.  Click here for more information on being a mentee.  If you are interested in participating in the program, please email education@ewgaboston.org with your name, email address, location where you live and work.  If you belong to an EWGA league, please specify which one.  All this information will help us pair people up.

4.
Practice:  Regular and focused golf practice sessions are important to become a better golfer and achieve lower scores.  If you practice properly, you will save a lot of time and find the game of golf much more rewarding. Proper practice will build motor memory and good habits.

5.
Play golf:  You are now ready to have some fun and play golf!  The EWGA provides opportunities to play on a regular basis through weekend events and weekly leagues.  Check out the Events schedule on the website to see the different courses we play each week.  Golf leagues are a fun way to learn and play the game on a regular basis.  Check out the Leagues section of the website to find one in your area.
