MEET THE BOARD
Board of Directors: | | President - Nancy Coleman I started playing golf when I turned 30. I was in a sales position, and some co-workers introduced me to the game -- I was hooked! Joining EWGA in 2003 was a great experience. I was a bit hesitant about my own beginner golf skills, but the women in our chapter made me feel welcome, and never intimidated. I can’t say enough about the wonderful people I’ve met through our chapter and the great friendships developed. Getting involved with the chapter as a volunteer in 2006 really helped me meet even more people. |
Vice-President - Akara Elsbach I caught the golf bug in 2004. After playing in a beginners' league at Middleton golf course and losing several playing partners to pregnancies or relocation, I needed to find a group where I was never for want of people to play golf with. Thankfully, I found EWGA in 2007. I've tried to take full advantage of everything EWGA has to offer; I play in the Sandy Burr league, participate in weekend events and have taken the Breaking 100 series of clinics. Wanting to get more involved, I volunteered at Kick-off, then joined the board in 2009 as Education and Player Development Chair. I've enjoyed playing with so many interesting and fun people in the organization.
| | Secretary - Ina Armstrong My interest in golf started in my twenties, although I was unable to pursue it at the time. I joined EWGA in 2001 -- my primary motive: learning to play well enough to participate in my office scramble. Now I play in two leagues as well as the office scramble. I know how important it is to give back to this all-volunteer organization, and have served as Social Event Co-Chair and Secretary. This year, I hope to play enough to establish a handicap. Yes, golf can be frustrating, but you only need one good shot to come back for more! I am very happy that I finally accepted the challenge of this sport!

Treasurer - Margaret Crosby
I took up golfing in the mid-90's and joined EWGA in 2000 after meeting a member at a golf course. (You never know who you are going to influence!) Every year I have volunteered to be an event coordinator. I've been league coordinator at Sandy Burr and the last two have enjoyed being the coordinator of Hillview as well as Treasurer the last two years. It is wonderful being part of such a great dynamic group who are committed to moving women's golf forward.
| | Immediate Past President - Jackie Corcoran I was tired of watching the men in my office go play golf on those beautiful summer days and knew I didn't want to be the one sitting in the office!! My sister-in-law bought me a putter and we took lessons -- one of the best decisions in my life! I attended the EWGA Kickoff and knew I had to join immediately. I play league at Putterham and have become good friends with wonderful women who love to laugh on the golf course as much as I do! I'm excited about playing the Inaugural new England Cup, and hope to bring the Cup to Boston! The Chapter Championship is always a highlight of my golf season -- look for me and my "Team Carnation" in pink shirts. |
Committees: Education - Deb Kirk I became addicted to golf after my first lessons in 2002 and cannot get enough of the game. I probably watch way too much Golf Channel but what else is a Northern golfer to do all winter! I joined the EWGA in 2009 and immediately felt comfortable with the group -- so comfortable that I assumed a board position for my second year. I enjoy playing the weekend events; we get to play some amazing courses. My favorite course is Cyprian Keyes, but I could do without its 13th hole. I look forward to playing some new courses this year and meeting more great people who share my love for this game.
| | Newsletter Editor, Chapter Championship Director - Gail Rao I joined EWGA Boston for the second time in 2001. I have been actively involved in league play, as League Coordinator, then league assigner – back in the dark ages when it was manual! I helped with last year's Chapter Championship, and am this year's Chair. I also serve as Newsletter Editor. The value I derive from my EWGA membership is immeasurable; the lifelong friendships I've made alone are priceless!
My golfing goal for this year is to play enough to lower my handicap. I hope to play frequently at my favorite local course (Maplegate) with my Boston Chapter pals. Little known golfing experience: Nick Faldo let me play through! |
Communications - Willa Belcher I took up golf to play with my mother -- she would love that I shot a hole-in-one the other day while playing with my EWGA friends! Golf and my EWGA family have become a major part of my life. A member since 1998, I have played with the Brookmeadow and Juniper Hill leagues and numerous weekend events. I’ve tried to give back by serving on the Events Committee, as Handicap Chair, and Communications Chair, and always seem to find myself in the middle of major transitions.
I am a member at Wedgewood Pines CC in Stow, but my friends know I’ll go anywhere to play golf!

| | Webmaster - Mari Ingram "Connect - Learn - Play - Belong": in these ways, the Boston Chapter has enriched my life. When I moved to Boston from Minnesota twenty years ago, I wanted an organization that provided golf opportunities. Ironically, I found my group at the EWGA table at the Kraft Nabisco in Palm Springs, CA. I joined on the spot. Weekend events have always been my favorite, but this year I joined league play for the first time. Given my competitive nature, I am excited about participating in our first New England Cup. This is my third season on the board. We are constantly looking for ways to enhance the features on the website to make it informative and user friendly. We hope you'll send us your ideas. |
Development - Chris Swistro
I learned to play golf at 7 when my dad taught me the love and skill of the game. I spent lots of time on the links and honed my game through high school, but didn't play much in college and after moving to Boston. Then I found EWGA! I particularly enjoy league play. There's nothing like a sunny Friday afternoon at Sandy Burr and a cold drink with my league mates after the round! I've enjoyed making new friends, networking, and contributing to the growth of our chapter through my work on Sponsorships. It's been a great way for me to apply my business skill to support one of my favorite hobbies - golf!

| | Events Chair - Fay Moy I joined EWGA in 2008 as a means to connect with other women golfers, and so I could participate in a weekly league. I wanted to overcome my "fear and intimidation" of league/weekend play being too competitive (they're not!), and to have a set aside timeframe to play every week. EWGA fulfilled all these goals and much, much more!!! Given all that the organization has provided me, I felt that I needed to give back, and I am honored to be Events Chair for the 2010 season. Goals this year: Meeting more great people, creating more fond memories, playing more consistently, and having FUN!!!! |
Handicaps - Jill Tyzack I started playing golf sometime in the 1990s and have been a member of EWGA since 2003. My parents were avid golfers and in my early twenties, they paid for me to have golf lessons. However, since it was their idea and not mine, I wasn’t very interested. If only I had started golf then, maybe I wouldn’t be struggling with a high handicap now! My golf goals for this year are to lower my handicap and to break 100.
| | Leagues - Pam Verrill A long-term and enthusiastic league player out of Millwood Farm Golf Course, I'm currently the League Chair. |

"Pine Meadows, 6:00AM Monday morning is the BEST way to start the week"... If you have met me, you've heard me say that. I have been the league coordinator at Pine Meadows since 2000 when the league started. I was already on the League committee, having being talked into joining Boston EWGA by my friend Donna Devin, a co-worker who got me hooked on golf. I had always wanted to play and joined EWGA in 1995 -- one of the best decisions I've made. I've met literally hundreds of fascinating women in my 15 years in the Chapter. Meeting new people and watching them grow is something I really enjoy. As a League Coordinator and as Membership Chair, volunteering gives me plenty of opportunity for both.
